Alternate Tactical Polo Features

Rothco's Gear of the Month the Tactical Performance Polo Shirt has many features that make it perfect for patrol, security, or coaching.  These features include its integrated mic clips for a variety of portable mics and pen pockets for easy access to writing utensils.  however, what would you say if I told you that there are many other uses for these great features?
  • Sick of your headphones flopping around and getting caught? Use the mic clip located under the tactical polo's center placket to hold the wires in place.  This will reduce tangling as well as preventing your headphones from hitting the floor and possibly tripping over them.
  • Sunglasses can be really expensive.  Why trust hanging them on your collar or hat when you can use the mic clips to safely secure your exorbitantly priced sunglasses.  (Or you can check out Rothco’s line of fashionable yet reasonably priced sunglasses here.)

Glasses, Secure.

No Tangle. No Mess.

With a little imagination you can find some handy additional uses for the features of Rothco’s Tactical Polo.  To learn more details about our #GOTM click here.

How To Prepare for Hurricane Season

Are you prepared for the next big hurricane? With heavy rain and winds that can exceed 100 miles per hour, hurricanes are among nature’s most destructive events. It's important to have emergency survival items on hand if you live in an area that is frequent with hurricanes, in case you are faced with an emergency situation. We've compiled a suggested list of items that can be essential to survival during one of these major storms.

Emergency Lighting - Power lines can easily go out due to the high winds from a hurricane. Stray debris can also knock out power and damage the lines, which means you could be without electricity for a few days. Having wind up or solar power lights can help find your way to safety.

First Aid - Hurricanes can wreak havoc, causing various injuries due to flying debris, flooding, etc. It’s very important to have a fully stocked first aid kit on hand, for any emergency.

Emergency Food/Water - Natural disasters can cause a shortage in food supply. Keep some non-refrigerated, ready-to-eat food around as back ups in case the power goes out and your appliances are no longer working.

Shelter and Protection From The Elements - Hurricanes can destroy homes and lives. Make sure you are protected in case you need to evacuate your home or neighborhood. Shelter is important in any survival situation.

Team Rothco Volunteers

Last week I had the pleasure of volunteering at the Angela's House in Smithtown, along with Gina from Human Resources and Lori from Shipping. The Smithtown house, or Angela's House II, is home to medically frail children ages 10 to about 17 years old. Rothco has been working with this organization over the past few years as part of our Holiday Charity Program.

The three of us received an educated tour of the facility, where we learned exactly what the houses do, how they are run and the needs they provide. The wonderful staff that works there explained the different disabilities and how each child is unique. They also told us how all of the equipment used in the houses was either donated to them or bought with money that they raised through their many fundraising events. Next, we were able to see the beautiful rooms that the children have, complete with large murals on the walls and decorations galore. The house felt cozy and warm. It really is a home away from home.

After the tour, it was time to meet some of the residents. We were joined by two of the children who live there and had the opportunity to read to them in their living room. Then it was time to get our hands dirty and make the house's garden ready for the summer. We planted brightly colored flowers in the front gardens to help make the house more colorful and inviting. It was such a rewarding experience to see all this organization has to offer these children. I am so thankful to work for a company that encourages its employees to volunteer at organizations like Angela's House.

Angela's House is a non-profit organization that assists families caring for children with special health care needs that are medically fragile, chronically ill, or living with a life-threatening illness. The three houses, located on Long Island, NY, provide round the clock care for children who cannot live at home due to their circumstances or cannot afford proper medical care. For more information, visit their website: www.angelashouse.org
