How to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse

With recent events hinting towards a zombie outbreak, what better time than now to be prepared just in case something goes down?  Now I’m not saying it’s the beginning of a zombie apocalypse, but when a man bites off another man’s face and has no reaction to being shot, then I THINK we should at least consider it.  Here’s how to survive:

Stay In Shape

The first people zombies go after are people out of shape.  They’re easy to chase down and they’re more to eat.  With zombies roaming around it would be impossible to get to your gym safely every day.  So since most people won’t have access to weights during an apocalypse, I put together a quick, full-body workout that will allow you to kick zombie ass at a moment’s notice.

  • 10 Jump Squats x 3 sets
  • As many Pull-Ups as you can x 3 sets
  • As many Sit-Ups as you can x 3 sets
  • And as a finisher Bodyweight Complex: 30 Mountain Climbers, 20 Push-Ups, 10 Groiners, 5 Burpees.  Do this complex 3 times with a minute rest in between sets.
You will have PLENTY of time to get in shape during an apocalypse, NO EXCUSES!

Team Up

If your name’s not Chuck Norris, then you will not survive the zombie apocalypse by yourself.  Get a group of survivors and stick together as a team.  Watch each other's backs, solve problems together, and stay alive.  Also getting a group of people together will keep you sane.  Living a couple months all by yourself in a post-apocalyptic zombie world doesn’t sound too fun now does it?  And don't forget to join our new Readiness & Survival Facebook Page where you can team up with survivalists, learn some new survival information, and get a couple laughs.

Be Equipped

Food stock is important!  With zombies roaming around every corner, rolling up to your local Taco Bell late night to get a Cheesy Gordita Crunch should not be in your thought process.   Weather you plan to barricade in a house or backpack to the nearest survivor camp, you NEED food.  Something compatible and high in nutrition is your best bet.  My first option is Meal Ready-to-Eats (A.K.A. MREs).  They're lightweight, extremely compatible, and give you the proper energy and nutrition to get through the day.  My second option would be to cook.  That’s right, I said COOK!  Too many times I’ve heard people say I went to McDonald's because I didn’t have time to cook. BS!  Being a recent college student I know exactly what it’s like to be too tired to cook.  But if you take 20 minutes out of your Sunday and grill a ton of chicken and vegetables, your dinner is set for the week!  Sure it might not taste better than a Big Mac, but it might keep you alive if the zombie apocalypse happens.

Weapons are important too!  These zombies aren’t going to kill themselves!  My weapon of choice would be the AR-15.  It's user-friendly and very light with moderate recoil which allows for rapid follow up shots.  Aim for the head and conserve your ammo.  Also Rothco’s 14" Burriquito Machete, Zombie Slingshot, and Pepperspray could come in handy for those just in case situations.

Have Hope

Never lose hope.  Always have something worth living for whether it's finding other survivors, finding a place to live out your years, or finding a cure to save humanity.  The person with nothing to live for will be the next zombie. As Andy Dufresne from The Shawshank Redemption once said,

"Hope is a good thing.  Maybe the best thing. And no good thing ever dies."

Rothco Extreme Places Winner Profile

Dylan Sporting His Shopping Spree!
A couple months ago Rothco held our first ever photo contest. We ask our Facebook & Twitter followers to submit the photos of them wearing Rothco in an Extreme Place. After narrowing down tons of amazing photos our Fans on Facebook picked a winner and his name was Dylan.

Dylan who has been a fan of Rothco for over 4 years, loves to use our gear out on the Airsoft field and has been a fan of our stuff since he started playing the game. So when he saw the post about our contest on our Facebook Page, he knew he should enter and show off how he wears Rothco Gear.

"I love that the gear is affordable, well made, and durable" said Dylan

When asked about his favorite Rothco items, hands down he said it had to be our Desert Forced Entry Boots, if fact he loved them so much that when he received his $500 shopping spree from Rothco for winning the contest, he ordered a brand new pair. In addition to picking the boots for his shopping spree, Dylan just didn't think about himself, he also picked out 9 pairs of our Polycarbonate Len Sunglasses for his entire Airsoft team!

Paracord...The Most Wanted Accessory Item this Year!

OD 30800

One can say that 2012 is the year of Paracord! From Survivalist to Soccer Moms, paracord can be seen everywhere.

To meet the overwhelming demand of the product, Rothco recently expanding its offering by introducing polyester paracord.  This new cord is just as strong if not stronger than then nylon cord. The average test strength of the polyester cord is 727 lbs, well above the 550 lb industry standard and despite the fact that the item is imported, the quality equals or exceeds that of the U.S. made.
The polyester paracord allows for a more flexible finished product and there are NO problems melting the cut ends of the cord. Comparing the USA made vs. the polyester for the paracord projects (bracelets/necklaces) people have found that the finished product seems less stiff and bends around the wrist/neck more comfortably.
Rothco has recently brought in 10 different colors of 100 foot polyester Paracord. The spectrum of colors includes OD, Tan, Safety Green, Orange, Safety Yellow, Red, Rose Pink, Hunter Green Royal Blue and Charcoal Grey and more colors coming soon; Black, White, Woodland Camo, Desert Camo and Army Digital Camo. What’s great about these colors is that they can be worn for fashion, school spirit, as a symbol of strength honor, and support. For instance, a pink paracord bracelet is a great way to show support of Breast Cancer Awareness.

Safety Yellow 30804
In order to meet your growing demand on paracord I recommend the Polyester cord for all your paracord projects. The polyester cord is inexpensive, durable and in STOCK and ready to SHIP.

Concealed Carry, A New Fashion Trend?

Rothco's Concealed Carry Jacket
Hiding In Style

I recently came across a New York Times article highlighting a new trend in tactical fashion, It's being called "Covert Fashion". The main idea behind it is taking everyday clothing items like a jacket or shirt and adding concealed carry pockets to the inside, which are ideal for hiding or holding a handgun. While it's not hitting the runways of Milan it can certainly be seen (or not seen - depending on how you look at it) on the streets and in everyday fashion.

By just looking at recent Google Insight Search for "concealed carry" you can see how popular this term has become over the past two years.

With all the talk about this topic, it got me thinking about the items Rothco already carries. Most recently we added two 3 Season Concealed Carry Jacket in both Black and Khaki. In addition, we carry a Concealed Carry Vests in two colors and I know that in coming months we will be introducing more items with such a feature.

So how many of you own a piece of concealed carry clothing?
