If It's The End Of The World, I Feel Fine 'Cause Rothco's Got Me Covered!

The end of days is upon us, well at least according to the Mayans but I am not worried because awhile back I built the perfect bug out bag from Rothco.

If the endless stream of  movies about the end of the world have taught us nothing, it can't hurt to be prepared. And while i From a durable backpacks and food rations to tools like a compass or an muti-tool, there is nothing in my bag that I won't use. Whether you are prepping for the 12/21/2012 or natural disaster like Super Storm Sandy it's better to be safe than sorry.

Learn how you can be prepared with Rothco's Bug Out Bag App.

Button Up! My Top 5 Choices of Military Outerwear from Rothco

With all the crazy weather we have been having here on the East Coast, I thought it was about time I get myself a good winter jacket. To help me narrow down the choices, I've put together a list my Top 5 choices from Rothco.

#5. A classic for sure, Rothco's M-65 Field Jacket is one of the most recognizable military style of jackets. Not only has it become a fashion staple, it is a highly functional jacket.

#4. For a simpler look I could always go with Rothco's Gen III Military E.C.W.C.S Jacket. Not only is it a jacket but doubles as a liner for the level 3 of the E.C.W.C.S system, just in case the weather around here gets really bad!

#3. Another classic style of coat that never goes out of fashion is the U.S Navy Inspired Peacoat.

#2. New for the 2012/2013 Winter Season is Rothco's Soft Shell Tactical M-65 Jacket, this new jacket offers the great style of Rothco's M-65 Jacket with a durable lightweight & breathable waterproof shell. It also has great added features like a concealed hood and 4 Snap-Up pockets.

#1. Partially because I am a huge fan of the Olive Drab color on this jacket and I think it would second as a great snowboarding jacket, my Number 1 choice is Rothco's Special Ops Soft Shell Jacket. This jacket offers sleek tactical elements, like two shoulder pockets, double zipper back pocket, hook & loop patches and is constructed from a durable lightweight 100% Water proof fabric. And it is super comfortable and warm.

So, now it's your turn. Of these 5, what jacket would you choose?

Lesson of the Week: There is no such thing as being over prepared.

Tree Down in my Backyard
Boats Jumbled Together at a Marina in Brant Beach

After being affected by Hurricane Sandy I’ve learned that preparedness is a NECESSITY.  Looking outside my window Monday night watching my trees rip up from the roots, and feeling the earth shake when they slammed to the ground was something I’ll never forget.  Waking up the next morning I thought my neighborhood got it bad.  But I was wrong.

With the power out and service extremely minimal, I decided to use up some of my cell phone battery to check Facebook and see how my friends and family were doing.  After seeing pictures of Long Beach, the AC Boardwalk and parts of NYC underwater, I was speechless.  With houses wiped away and lives taken I wish I could’ve done something to prevent it all from happening.  I was not expecting something like this to happen.

Even though there is nothing we can do to stop hurricanes and other natural disasters from occurring, we can all be preparedThere is no such thing as being over-prepared for situations like thisTangible goods such as first-aid kits, flashlights, radios, batteries, and even extra blankets, could go a long way.  Even having intangibles like trust and listening skills are essential.  As hard as it is, if you are told to evacuate your area you NEED to do so.  You can not under estimate the power of Mother Nature.

With many of us still without power there is not much else to do except spend quality time with family and friends, and help a neighbor in need.  Times may be dark now but there's always a light at the end of the road.

Stay Positive
Stay Strong

Surviving For Sandy, When Frankenstorm Starts Knocking At Your Door!

Storm Prep on the Beaches of Long Beach
When you live across the street from the ocean being prepared for a hurricane is almost second nature, that and getting a good tan. But as Sandy barrels towards my sandy shores of NY, I am glad I picked up some prepper skills from my time here at Rothco

While others filled their houses with bread and milk, I stocked up on these. As they rummage through their house for some old D batteries for the flash light, I have my trusty Solar Flashlight with hand crank feature. And when everyone else gets board when the power goes out and everyone's electronic devices die, I've got 100 feet of my trusty Paracord to pass the time by making some survival bracelets. This also may come in handy but lets home I don't have to use them!

Whatever my come my I know I got a leg up on most thanks to my trusty Bug Out Bag and having warehouse full of great product to help me wait out the storm also helps.

To everyone in the storm's path - stay safe!
