It’s Freezing Outside!

A blog published by Noice which focuses on undergraduate life at Harvard had an interesting post. It was called “It’s Freezing Outside!” the blog post went on to advise students about the best coats and winter accessories to wear in arctic weather. They went on to advise people about the importance of staying warm in the winter time as well as being fashionable. Although the importance of staying warm seems like common sense the fashionable part…well for some, not as easy. It featured a bunch of items such as Parkas, Pea Coats, Rubber Boots and Hats. Which for the winter months these items are necessity. What wasn’t so necessary are the prices in which these items were listed…

Items that were listed are Rothco Staples when it comes to winter. Parkas listed for $160/Rothco’s Retail 61.99, Pea Coats for $127/Rothco’s Retail 99.99, Winter Boots for $199/ Rothco’s Retail 32.99, and the best selling Fur Flyers Hat for $168/ Rothco’s Retail 19.99! Rothco stocks every item listed for a substantial amount less. You don’t have to go to Harvard to realize what is going on here…

Rothco has the goods to keep your warm, the goods to keep your customers looking fashionable, and the goods that won’t cost your customer’s an arm and a leg.

Have a very safe and happy New Year!

Rihanna's Goes Military in Her new Video "Hard"

Rihanna is one of the hottest selling artists of 2009 and looks to be #1 in 2010. Rihanna has sold over 12 million records and was honored with World Music Awards for World's Best-Selling Pop Female Artist and Female Entertainer of the Year, as well as the 2008 American Music Awards for Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist and Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist.

Rihanna’s newest video “Hard” is exploding with military clothing and gear. Some of the military items that are featured in this video are Rothco's staple items that can be found in many of our dealers stores and websites ; Vintage Vietnam Era Fatigue Shirt, Jungle Boots, Pistol Belts, Netting, Dog Tags, Fingerless Gloves, and Helmets.

The intense usage of military clothing in Rihanna's new video should draw some attention and traffic to Army Navy Stores and Web Sites. With that in mind, dealers should post images in their stores, on their sites, and on their facebook and twitter accounts, in order to help the consumer make the connection between this video and the military products they are carrying.

We encourage dealers to use these images and video in creative ways to help promote these products. Please feel free to post a link to this blog on your own web sites.

We hope that you have a happy, healthy and successful 2010.

Giving Back This Holiday Season

In the midst of all the frenetic activity of the holiday season, between our personal preparations and the craziness that overtakes us in the business world, it's important to remember those who are less fortunate than we are. With that in mind, the employees at Rothco at the encouragement of the management, collect money for local Long Island charities as well as collecting clothes and other toys for families who have become involved in the family court system. All financial contributions made by Rothco employees are matched 100% by the company which greatly increases the incentive for us to reach a little deeper to help those who need it.

This year, two of the charities we are helping are PRONTO and Hope House Ministries. PRONTO is an organization which provides food, basic essentials and household needs to families. PRONTO offers a variety of programs including the Food Pantry, the Thrift Storage Area, English as a Second Language classes, a Prescription Program, and a children’s Shots For Tots Program.

Hope House provides a variety of service including a homeless center for youth, adult homeless housing, and various therapeutic and social services since 1980.

The picture at top shows our president, Howard Somberg and Vivian Hart, director of PRONTO when she visited our offices to tell our employees more about their programs. Vivian is giving Howard a certificate of appreciation for a donation we made to PRONTO from the funds we donate by sending out email holiday greetings instead of paper cards.

Today, we brought more money to PRONTO from our holiday collection. Vivian Hart is visibly overwhelmed by the generosity of the Rothco employees.

We know that many of you are involved in similar concerns and we thank you for your efforts. You can read more about the charities that Rothco supports at our website.

Happy Holidays to all of you and a very peaceful and prosperous New Year.

Regards,
John Ottaviano

Core Values: Online Success this Holiday Season & Happy Business Owners

Two recent seemingly unrelated articles are very interesting and relevant to our industry and partners, most particularly to those who own their own business.

The first is an interview on Emarketer.com with Kevin Ertell, Vice President, Retail Strategy at ForeSee Results. He speaks about what he expects to see from online retailers this holiday season, and, despite all the discussion about social networking and Web 2.0, he thinks most online retailers will depend upon the tried and true, search engine and e-mail marketing.

He also offers this anecdotal observation about the upcoming holiday shopping season:

"I’m also starting to hear people talk about this idea of “frugality fatigue.” They’ve been saving money, and maybe it’s time to spend a little, buy a little bit."

Finally, there is this observation about the best thing online retailers can do to improve their customer loyalty:

"I see tons and tons of opportunity, particularly online, in just improving the customer experience. So, if sites focus more on that core usability, they can see a lot of bang for the buck on improving their ability to meet customers’ needs. If you do that, then price, while it will never be a non-factor, can become a lesser factor"

Very informative interview, you can read all of it here

The World’s Greatest Athlete’s Wear Rothco

Now Rothco has been around since 1953…as I’m sure you all know by now. Our apparel and camouflage has been worn by soldiers, celebrities, ball players, movie stars, ect. I think it’s fair to call us the King of Camo… When a super star basketball player such as (King) Lebron James wears our product that just only reiterates that point…. Lebron seen here in an LA club sporting our 8631 – Mens Woodland Capri pants.

You don’t have to earn millions of dollars a year to sport this look. Rothco proves this time and time again with many of our classic products.

Also sporting the Woodland Camo look is Former Pro-bowler Larry Johnson. Seen here wearing the Rothco’s 7941 - Woodland Camo BDU Pants.

Although no-longer with the Kansas City Chief as of this morning, he still is on his job sporting the classic woodland camo pants!

Another Super Star baller sporting Rothco product is Sir David Beckham of the LA Galaxy. Here he is seen wearing our 4147 - Vintage D-Ring Belt. Not to mention his glasses look very much like our classic 10200 - Smoke Aviators - # 10200.
